Our Favorite Paint Colors for Every Room in the House

Selecting the right paint color can be an overwhelming process. It can feel like there are endless possibilities from different sheens to various hues! Paint color can truly have more power than you think, from making a room feel airy and spacious to significantly smaller. Lighting and room orientation also play a role, so you’ll want to keep that in mind as you’re reading through this post.

In our time, we have had plenty of opportunities to experiment with different paint colors and try them out in several rooms in a diverse set of homes. So that’s why we’ve done the work for you by putting together this helpful guide on what colors we think looked and performed the best based on location within the home.

Exterior Trim ➼ Black Fox by Sherwin-Williams

This color is the perfect near-black, but with rich brown undertones. It complements many shades of white and beige and adds just the right amount of elegance. It’s best used as an accent color because it does pack a high contrast punch, which makes it such an ideal fit for exterior trim.

Bedroom ➼ In the Midnight Hour by Benjamin Moore

Whether you decide to do an accent wall or paint the entire room, this color is one of our favorite moody meets jewel tones. It’s timeless, sophisticated, and comforting all at the same time, and we’ve seen it pair well with rich wood tones and colors on the opposite end of the spectrum, like burnt orange and golden yellow.

Bathroom ➼ Clary Sage by Sherwin-Williams

Clary Sage is a great way to introduce an accent color in your home because it’s light and approachable while still adding a little contrast. It’s a calming and earthy muted green that goes exceptionally well in a bathroom or laundry room or for a little pop of color on a door. We recommend choosing a smaller room and painting it in its entirety.

Living Room ➼ Warm Butterscotch by Dunn-Edwards

This color looks and feels as good as it sounds with its creamy golden brown undertones that make a living room feel cozy and inviting. This color looks great in homes with high or low ceilings, and we recommend painting the room in its entirety for a cohesive, seamless look.

Kitchen ➼ White Duck by Sherwin-Williams

This color can best be described as the perfect “greige.” Even as the light changes over the course of the day, this color manages to stay true to its perfect balance of white meets super light grey. It pairs perfectly well with a statement-making backsplash and wood cabinetry. We love how versatile this color is!

When it comes to paint color, we believe every color has its perfect space(s) and place(s) in the home, and sometimes you just need to see it to believe it!
